Our primers are designed to provide solid adhesion on most types of leather upholstery surfaces. Both are water-based, and are engineered to enhance the chemical bond between the leather and any subsequent color or filler application.
Finished Leather Primer is for use on leathers that already have a topical color coating. Most upholstery leather falls into this category. Unfinished Leather Primer is for use on unfinished aniline, pull-up, distressed, or nubuck leathers, as well as other exotic leathers. A visit to our leather care page may help you to identify your leather type.
Both PR-1 and PR-2 are mixed with aqueous solvents such as denatured alcohol or acetone to increase their effectiveness. The mix ratio is 1:3, primer to solvent. Primer is applied to leather surfaces prior to applying fill compounds, or leather paint (leather finish).
